At the Department of Materials, Chair for Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering, for decades we have been adopting knowledge and collecting our own understanding of the processes of heat treatment and surface engineering, as well as a wide range of possibilities that the combination of the two provides.
Within the framework of scientific and educational activities, alongside employees of the Department, students have contributed vastly to all above mentioned activities through the preparation of their seminar and graduation papers, master and doctoral theses. Traditional methods are something that our Chair is particularly proud of; for us there can be no question left unanswered, and in most cases, neither the work piece not provided (in our laboratory) with required properties.
Thermal and thermo-chemical treatments like: Annealing, hardening and tempering in the protective atmosphere, heat treatments in vacuum, induction hardening, nitrocarburizing or vanadizing in salt baths, gas nitriding or nitrocarburizing, boriding, case hardening are exactly what ensured us a strong and highly successful collaboration with the business sector over the past decades.
In addition to these technologies (which are still largely irreplaceable) for some time now, certain very specific needs are emerging - in particular ones considering the properties of the surface layers of different products. Therefore, reconciling demands of the market and the inevitable scientific and technological breakthrough, we decided to utilize the best from our people and the abundance of EU funds. We conceived the ARISE!
...all acquired equipment, knowledge and a wide network of contacts will remain in service of the CHAIR and the FACULTY in general. We expect a large number of student projects, final and original scientific research papers, doctoral theses and innovations in the field of surface engineering - as a direct result of cutting-edge technology that becomes available with this project (both in Croatia and in wider region).
